The Big Ten Academic Alliance seeks a highly motivated, talented leader to take some of the most productive collaborations in American higher education to new levels of impact for the member universities.


The Big Ten Academic Alliance seeks a highly motivated, talented leader to take some of the most productive collaborations in American higher education to new levels of impact for the member universities.  From the headquarters office in Champaign, Illinois, this newly-created position of Director of Programs operates under the direction of the Executive Director, and in close concert with the Associate Director for Operations and the Director of Library Initiatives to oversee a comprehensive programmatic portfolio.  The Director will lead a dynamic team of professionals in order to continue the evolution of programs such as the fiber-optic network linking member campuses; the acclaimed Academic Leadership Program; and research collaborations in traumatic brain injury and health equity. 

The successful candidate will bring vision, tact and energy to their work and will develop and mentor high-performing teams of headquarters staff and campus leadership.  We seek a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and results-minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading programmatic efforts and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals.  The Director will enable others at the Big Ten Academic Alliance to deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the organization’s vision a reality.  Importantly, the Director will possess the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to actualize the potential that each member of the team brings to this mission.  While it is essential that the Director bring efficient and effective approaches to increase the productivity of the program staff, is it also critical that the team retain the creative spark and collegiality that drives the Big Ten Academic Alliance.  The Director will also build, manage and maintain relationships with leaders at the highest levels of member universities including Deans, Vice Presidents, Chief Information Officers and other senior officers.

The start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search, upon mutual agreement. Salary is commensurate with experience.  Big Ten Academic Alliance staff members are employees of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Director position is a full-time, benefits-eligible, academic professional position physically located at the Big Ten Academic Alliance Headquarters office in Champaign, Illinois.
