The Committee on Institutional Cooperation is pleased to announce the promotions of three staff members.
 
Kim Armstrong has been promoted to Deputy Director of the CIC Center for Library Initiatives, Amber Marks has been promoted to Associate Director, and Galen Rafferty has been promoted to Assistant Director for Technology Collaboration.
 
Armstrong will take on more responsibility for managing the Google Book Search Project (digitizing 10 million book volumes in CIC universities) and licensing and acquisitions activities. She holds a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois, a master's in music performance from Appalachian State University, and a bachelor's degree of education in music education from the University of North Carolina. Armstrong has held leadership, administrative, and faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Springfield, Triangle Research Libraries Network, and Illinois State University. She joined the CIC in 2007.
 
Marks will lead and direct our initiatives in coordinated academic programs and offerings,large scale procurement, and faculty leadership development. She holds a master's degree of social work from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's in sociology from Emporia State University. She has held administrative positions with the University of Illinois Graduate College and the UI-Integrate project. Marks also has held senior leadership roles with a number of non-profit organizations, including Executive Director of the East Central Illinois Alzheimer’s Association. She joined the CIC in 2005.
 
Rafferty will manage efforts related to “identity management,” development of a shared storage strategy for CIC universities, and expansion of software licensing efforts. He holds an MBA from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's in management information, also from the UI. In addition to his work with the CIC (he joined the staff in 2002), Rafferty has worked for the University of Illinois Housing Division and McDonald’s Corporation.
