The Chicago Council on Global Affairs released a report, "A Master Plan for Higher Education in the Midwest: A Roadmap to the Future of the Nation’s Heartland," at a March 31 program co-sponsored by the CIC.

The complete report is now available for download (PDF).

The report -- written by Dr. James J. Duderstadt, president emeritus at the University of Michigan and a current professor there -- calls for increased collaboration amongst universities in the region, which may help reduce dependence on state government resources.

"The states really don't have the resources to do very much right now," Mr. Duderstadt told the Chronicle of Higher Education in an interview on Wednesday. "They're in a very reactive mode right now."

The event also included a discussion with a distinguished panel of higher education leaders including University of Illinois President Michael J. Hogan.

The program, which included the presentation of the paper, a panel discussion, and a question-and-answer session, is available for viewing online.
