This in-depth Layette Journal & Courier article delves into the many benefits of the University of Nebraska entrance into the Big Ten and the CIC.

"In order to do first-class research, we want to live in a neighborhood that helps support that," said Dr. Scott Fuess Jr., chairman of the Department of Economics who earned his master's and doctorate degrees from Purdue in 1983 and 1986, respectively. "In terms of academics, there's no neighborhood with a better reputation than the Big Ten.

"In the academic world, the (Committee on Institutional Cooperation) has the sort of clout that Wal-Mart has in the retail world. We'll recognize that in terms of cost savings. That's measurable."
